About

Bridgeword is a free word-connection puzzle. You get two subjects and build a bridge between them out of real Wikipedia articles. Two subjects connect when one article links to the other in its main text.

How puzzles are made

We took the 100,000 most-read English Wikipedia articles and every link between them. Links that only appear in navigation boxes at the bottom of pages don't count. Very broad articles (big countries, major wars and similar) link to almost everything, so they're marked as "too broad" and can't be played.

Each puzzle's two subjects are well-known articles that don't link to each other directly. "Par" is the number of links in the shortest possible bridge. Every puzzle has its own permanent link, so you can challenge friends with the same one.

Your language

Subjects are shown with their names from the Wikipedia in your language, and you can search for them in it. When you ask why two subjects connect, the sentence comes from your language's Wikipedia if it has one; otherwise from English Wikipedia, translated by your browser where it can.

Scoring

Your score is the number of subjects you added, including ones that never connected. Lower is better. A perfect game adds exactly the subjects on a shortest path.
